Email issues/Troubleshooting
If you’re on this page, then it means that likely your initial elation at the prospect of receiving your first (and perhaps only) expat package has been dashed by silly spam filters. Fortunately for you, the information below will help you correct your email settings, thereby ensuring smooth delivery of your weekly ticket to cool in Beijing.
Microsoft Outlook:
- From the "Tools" menu, select "Options"
- On the "Preferences" tab, click the "Junk E-Mail" button
- Click the "Safe Senders" tab
- Click the "Add" button
- Type ExpatPackage.com into the field in the popup window, and click the "OK" button
- Click "OK" on each of the previous pages to exit the Options windows
- NOTE: If the images in our emails are being blocked, adding ExpatPackage.com to your "safe senders" list should also solve this problem.
GMail:
- Login to your email account
- Click the "Spam" link on the left
- Click on the email sent by ExpatPackage.com
- Click the "Not Spam" button above the message
Yahoo:
- Login to your email account
- Click "Mail Options"
- Click "Filters"
- Click the "Add" button
- Provide a name for this filter in the “Filter Name” box, and then next to where it says "From header contains", type ExpatPackage.com
- Where it says "Then... Move the message to:" select "Inbox"
- Click "Add Filter"
Hotmail or MSN:
- Login to your email account
- Click "Options"
- Click "Junk Email Protection"
- Click "Safe List"
- Add ExpatPackage.com to the list
AOL:
- Login to your email account
- Open your Address Book
- Add "editor@ExpatPackage.com"
- Note: Make sure you check your "bulk senders" folder for the ExpatPackage confirmation email, where it says "show me mail from," in your mailbox.
Other Internet Service Providers:
- Safe List: Set up your own safe list, which some email systems allow you to do. Look for the safe list in the settings section, and add ExpatPackage.com. If you have to enter a complete address, use "editor@ExpatPackage.com". Some email systems require a sender to be in your address book to keep the email from being diverted to a "junk"; or "bulk"; mail folder. If your system has this requirement, add "editor@ExpatPackage.com" to your address book.
- Technical Support: Get in touch with technical support at your ISP or company and explain the problem. If they're blocking email from ExpatPackage, let them know that they need to stop. If they refuse, bribe them with the offer that you know how they can also start receiving weekly tickets to the Beijing cool crowd.
- Changing your email address: Although this might seem like a drastic and disproportionate response, you can either do this or instead perfect your blank stare when you don’t know what people are talking about.
- Note: Make sure you check your "bulk senders" folder for the ExpatPackage confirmation email, where it says "show me mail from," in your mailbox.
If after all of this you are still having problems, let us know using the form below. ExpatPackage will see what it can do.
